problem with splash screen during boot for ubuntu 8.1

Asked by fdhealy4

I have been running Ubuntu 8.1 for about a week now. This is my first try at Ubuntu. All of a sudden when I boot the splash screen is not the Ubuntu name and the progress bar but a bunch of flashing lines. Ditto the closedown splash screen. As far as I can tell it is only a problem for the program that does the screen, Ubuntu seems to actually boot and run fine. I can't seem to change the resolution in upsplash.conf so I changed the screen resolution to match the file resolution. That didn't help. I'm perplexed.

I got the upsplash file saved with the new resolution vales and updated initramfs. This did not fix the problem.

You could try fiddling around with startup-manager (from the universe-repos).

That solved my splash screen problems on startup and shut down. I still get the same problem when the initial solid background is suppose to show until the desktop wallpaper comes up. I would like to completely like to solve the problem if anyone has some further ideas.

Thanks midnightflash. I was looking for a program like you recommended.

Problem solved. I had to re-sync my monitor during the initial background color display.

Thanks again to midnightflash
