Failure in installing driver 4 webcam

Asked by passionguy

I m using Gutsy. My issue is only with webcam right now. I am satisfied with Ubuntu in everything aspect except this.

I checked my camera & found that it has a Microdia chipset. I found EasyCam2 as solution but it was stated that EasyCam2 was for Hardy but i tried for Gutsy. I succesfully installed EasyCam2 & i was able 2 find my cam in the USB list. Then i went 2 the step of installing driver but it failed. I hope someone can help me to fix the issue.

Thousands of thanx 2 my Ubuntu friends.......

To properly identify your webcam, would you please post the relevant output of 'lspci'.

Sorry, my mistake ... not 'lspci' but rather 'lsusb' with the camera plugged in.

Of the 17 Microdia cameras listed with Michel Xhaard (the man who writes all the Linux webcam drivers), the 627b is not listed.
All the listed Microdia cameras run with either the spca5xx or the spca5xx/LE drivers.

Here is the download link if you would like to try these: http://mxhaard.free.fr/download.html

There is further information about Microdia drivers here: http://groups.google.com/group/microdia

All the instructions for installing a microdia driver are at the microdia URL I gave you.

I guess that you are fairly new to Linux and I understand that the instructions relate to something that you have never done before. It is a rather ambitious undertaking.

Perhaps you can contact your local linux user group to seek help. Just type LUG into the search bar of your browser.
This really needs someone within easy reach to guide you.

Alternatively, you could get another make of webcam - ask first to check compatibility with Linux.
