Keyboard problem after updating the system

Asked by aditya

I just updated my system (ubuntu 8.04) to the latest available packages yesterday.
Since then i am facing several problems.
Initially when i start the computer , the keyboard works properly,
after some time it stops working completely and at times starts again.
is this some kind system problem ?? or my computer has been infected by some malicious program,virus,etc ?
i am quite afraid to log onto ubuntu 8.04 because i would loose important data and passwords .

Pls help me.
Any kind of help will be appreciated!
Thanks

In short try to install the xserver-xorg-input-all package

Open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:
(when the system ask you a password give your user password, you will not see nothing when you type it, then press enter)

sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-all

Then please also be sure your system is fully updated/upgraded with no pending packages or errors:

sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get --fix-missing install
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get autoremove

Hope this helps

Hi,

I have the same bug but no key is working at all.
I append when going from unr 10.04 beta 1 to beta 2.

I am posting to add that : You can make a CTRL ALT F1
by using your mouse. Select button in bottom then click CTRL and ALT, finaly use colored case on right for F1.

Then after, you will be able do the precious command gave by Marcoba.

Hope this help

hello!
i have a small problem with my keyboard.
Some characters don't displayed corectly.
Like: uiop-----> are displayed: 456*
         jkl ------> >> >> : 123
         m --------> >> >> : 0
         / --------> >> >> : +

etc...

when i pressed the (FN) button, they are ok..!!!

I suspect it is something with layout of keyboard
(it is Fujitsu Amilo-those with white keys)
and the oper.system is ubuntu 10.+

CAN i fix it?
thanks very much (sorry b4t the ty*5ng has bec60e very stressf433/
