sudo apt-get install connection failed

I don't know why this happens, It's only started happening recently so I have reinstalled ubuntu 6.06 LTS and I'm waiting for the newest version to be sent to me.
I get an error while I'm trying to install things.. Here is an example,

E: Unable to fetch some archives, maybe run apt-get update or try with --fix-missing?

I have tried to run sudo apt-get update but this also brings errors, if you'd like to see the errors which It brings then I'll be happy to post that for you.

Try:

$sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get (dist-)upgrade

then:

$ gpg --keyserver subkeys.pgp.net --recv 437D05B5

then:

$ gpg --export --armor 437D05B5 | sudo apt-key add -

then:

$sudo apt-get install update

Retry installing the app

Again, this has failed, I've tried different mirrors too - but no luck.
This is really strange, the first time I installed ubuntu this never happened but after a few months it just wouldn't get and install anything, I tried installing today and I'm still having the same errors..
I've tried what you have said and it always returns the same errors as what it did In my first post for help, I've asked in #ubuntu on freenode but all they are telling me is that the servers are down and to try different mirrors which I have done.

sudo apt-get clean && sudo apt-get update

Are you connected via a router? You could try rebooting that if you haven't already

There is no 'software sources' in 'system --> administration', I use version 6.06.
I hope that when newest version is sent to me there won't be this problem :)

The software sources would be found in synaptic ->Settings -> Repositories but if you have re-installed I doubt it will make any difference. Sounds to me like it's a router or ISP issue.

Quite likely this will be unread (it's 3 year old) but I'm having sort of same problem.

My apt-get or aptitude are a mess after upgrading from lucid to Maverick.

Internet works perfectly (I mean, I am writing this, so DNS, routing, etc. should be all right, shouldn't it?).
I changed repositories main, spain, us, ... but no luck.

I'm out of patience and I have devote many hours searching for a fix.
I don't want to reinstall...
