Asked by ericg1840

I got a computer from my grandparents, which was running Windows 98. My sisters boyfriend tried installing XP on it and somehow killed the computer. now it wont start up enough to actually open windows and i was wondering if there was a way of reinstalling the OS with ubuntu? and if so how to boot it up to install?

To install:
go into your bios (usually by tapping del or esc or tab or f2 when you turn the power on)
Set the boot device (in standard chipset options or similar) to have you cdrom first.
Use a lightweight Linux distro like fluxbuntu or debian (alternate installation).
With a copy of almost any distribution install cd it should start the installer straight away, follow the prompts on screen.

Bear in mind that if it is a Win98 machine, it probably can't manage a full blown version of Ubuntu 8.10

I suggest you to install xubuntu than ubuntu ....

it's because xubuntu is more lightweight .....

Can you help with this problem?
