Sin Sonido - Ubuntu 8.10 - Audio onboard M3N78-VM

Desde la instalación, Ubuntu no reconoce el audio onboard del mother Asus M3N78-VM.
El icono del panel aparece cruzado, cuando se hace click sobre él da mensajes de error asociados con gstreamer.

puede servir para saber cual es el problema

"El control de volumen no encontró ningún elemento y/o dispositivo que controlar. Esto significa que no tiene los complementos correctos de GStreamer instalados o que no tiene una tarjeta de sonido configurada. Puede quitar el control de volumen..."

dando doble click sobre el mismo icono:
"No se han enconctrado complementos o dispositivos control de volumen de GStreamer".

si me fijo en Synaptics, tengo los paquetes instalados de gstreamer0.10

y tambien encontré esto otro, pero hasta aqui llego.. no se como compilar
este patch dentro del kernel..

fijate además (segun entiendo con mi pobre inglés), que el bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/298465 al cual haces referencia, solamente tiene por problema la salida de audio digital. En mi caso, no tengo ningún tipo de salida de audio (ni digital ni análoga).

Estuve leyendo un poco al respecto y hay algunas opciones:

- En caso de tener una tarjeta de video independiente, sacala y prueba el audio. (parece que no es el caso)
- Actualiza el sistema.
- Agrega la siguiente linea "options snd-hda-intel probe_mask=1" a "/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base"

prueba a instalar el paquete linux-backports-modules-intrepid.
En él hay controladores más nuevos de los dispositivos e igual asi te funciona el sonido.
De todas maneras si aún asi no te va te aconsejo que abras un bug report.

Bueno, hice lo indicado y no tube buen resultado..

sigue sin reconocer el audio onboard, pero además, ahora no reconoce la
placa de red (msi pc60g Wireless), por lo que me quedé sin red (menos mal
que en otra partición tengo instalado Windows, sino ni siquiera podría
haberte esctiro este mail....)

Ya probé desinstalar ese paquete, pero tampoco pasó nada, y sigo sin red!...

Respecto a la falta de sonido, creo que está más relacionado a una falta de
desarrollo de driver que con un bug.
En un post anterior, encontré un desarrollo de Lydia Wang <

brinda (aparentemente) soporte para este chipset. No lo he compilado
como parche al kernel de mi Ubuntu porque no se como hacerlo.

Llegado este punto creo que lo mejor es que mandes un reporte de bug a Ubuntu. Tienes los pasos necesarios aqui: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems. Básicamente lo que hay que hacer es lo siguiente:

bataje este script: http://alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh
Ejecutalo y te generará un URL. Esa URL la deberás indicar en el reporte.

De todas formas si tienes alguna duda de como hacerlo no tienes más que preguntar ;-)

buenas noticias, parece que el parche que comentas esta integrado en la version del kernel que esta propuesta para salir dentro de poco. ( esta en "actualizaciones aun no publicadas". Puedes activarlos en Sistema->Administracion->origenes de software.

(me siento más comodo posteando en español)..

Actualize el kernel a la versión que está por salir, pero sigo igual..

ya no se que pensar. En el reporte del bug, creo haber entendido que me
preguntaban si no he tocado algo en el Bios.. (sinceramente no estoy
seguro), pero te cuento que estoy usando la salida analógica estereo con
unos auriculares (conectados en la parte trasera del CPU). Me llama la
atención que si bien en el Bios hay algunas opciones para habilitar el audio
digital y el analógico, con esta misma configuración, booteando en windows y
con los drivers propietarios que vienen en el DVD del mother asus, el sonido
funciona...

Al margen de esto, también me comentan que según el alsa-info que subí,
aparentemente Ubuntu no está cargando ningun driver para manejar el sonido..

Y para peor de todos los casos, y vuelvo a decir que ya no se que pensar,
del reporte de bug

impresión que, si bien el audio digital (por hdmi) no funciona, el analógico
funcionaría bien...

Hola Pedro,

Hemos intentado buscar una solución pero no hemos encontrado ninguna todavía.
Lo primero nos llamço la atención es que los dos teneis la misma placa base pero los logs indican que teneis diferentes chips de audio.
Así en el otro bug le detecta la tarjeta de sonido y le carga los modulos del kernel, pero en tu caso ni eso.
Prueba a seguir jugando con los parametros de la BIOS a la espera de que un desarrollador más experimentado te pueda comentar algo.
Tambien prueba a ejecutar el siguiente comando:

sudo modprobre snd-hda-intel

que es para cargar el driver de la tarjeta de sonido y pon por aqui y/o en el reporte de bug el resultado

para probar, nomás, me bajé un live cd de Suse, y para sorpresa, el sonido
(al menos analógico) funciona en esa distro (un poco bajo, pero funciona)..

hice una prueba con el alsa-info.sh, y me dió la siguiente salida (no la
subio a internet porque no había configurado la red)...

I have the same problem with the m3n78-vm motherboard...
I not really sure of what sound car does this motherboard has...
In asus oficial page (http://asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=149&l3=643&l4=0&model=2268&modelmenu=2) I can read this: Audio

VT1708B 8 -Channel High Definition Audio CODEC

(vt108b is a via product)

but in my console after introducing lspc1 -v i get this:
