Updating To 8.10

Hi,

I`m currently Using Ubuntu 8.04. i hv recently acquired the C.D of the most recent version (8.10).i dont want to reinstall the newest version.instead i just want to update to 8.10.without loosing the already installed aplications.how can i do it..?

Insert your 8.10 cd

press Alt+F2

Type:
gksu "sh /cdrom/cdromupgrade"

enter your password if asked ...

hi,,
thanks for ur prompt reply,but the problem is not yet solved.i followed those procedures,when i pressed Alt+f2 a "run app" dialog box appeared, i copied and pasted the command "gksu "sh /cdrom/cdromupgrade"",and when i pressesed RUN it asked for a password and after that nothing happened..i repeated the process twice and in the last attempt i even stopped asking the password.Suspecting that the update process is complete without my knowledge i went to "system->About Ubuntu "to check the version,but it showed the same old version number "8.04"

 Forgot to tell u ,i hv a ubuntu cd 8.10 which was sent as a part of FREE CD DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM...so hope ur not confused with "Upgrading Using the Alternate CD/DVD".
