USB Memory Stick from Canonical

Asked by Ampers

I have just purchased an USB memory stick with Ubuntu loaded from Canonical Limited.

Not too sure how this works.

Does one load it in from Windows? Or plug it in and then reboot the computer? I have tried both but so far, nothing.

My own Linux PC which is only about a year old, doesn't seem to be able to boot from the memory stick either.

It's up to the BIOS whether a PC can or cannot boot from a usb stick.
Sometimes (nowadays), to boot from a usb stick, a little reconfiguration to the BIOS is OK; but somethimes (oldtimes), you need to have the BIOS updated (if it's possible) to a nowadays version.
An one year old machine should belong to the first case with a big posibility.

Thanks, I tried it on a third computer and that worked.

I did go into the Bios of the first one but there was no facility to boot from the USB.

And alas, I need windows on my machine to update my Bios (American Megatrends).

You certainly would have, if I hadn't suddenly have thought to look at my bios.

Your advise was absolutely spot on.
