Would like to install xubuntu on old compac computer

Asked by jodi

Hello everyone, I'm very newbie at this stuff so here goes. I have an old compaq desktop which I would like to wipe clean of win xp and hopefully install xunbuntu which I see here that might work. It an x86 fam model 8 stepping 12, Fat 32, AMD-3D 400 mhz. 256 mg ram and a 4 gb hardrive. I do have a cd rom to boot from. Thats all I know to give. Can anyone guide me here please? Should I reformat the hard drive first since it is showing completly full. It only has Adobe 8, Outlook, Windows Media Player, Avast antivirus and CCleaner...that's it, no other programs loaded such as games or word and excel. Have I got any hopes with this or should I trash. It is a little sluggish but it running xp pretty good just the error on hard drive being full and would like to try Xubuntu. Thank you for your help

You can just install Xubuntu and when the partition opens choose to Guided install: Entire Disk. This will wipe off everything on the disk and use all the space for Ubuntu. You system should run xubuntu without any problems.

Xubuntu

Minimum requirements
166 MHz processor
64 MB of system memory (RAM)
At least 1.5 GB of disk space
VGA graphics card

Recommended minimum requirements
300 MHz processor
256 MB of system memory (RAM)
8 GB of disk space
Graphics card capable of 800x600 resolution

Hope this helps
