How to reduce the boot time?

Asked by Arindam

Hi,
I have Ububtu 8.04 installed on my laptp with dual boot option (Other option is XP). I am not happy with the time Ubuntu takes to boot and I was looking for ways to reduce it. I have gone through the other related solution provided here, one of which says to disable the splash screen at start up. Is there some thing else that I can try?

I have been a windows user till I started working on Ubuntu. In windows user has the option of removing any program that gets loaded while the windows start and thus reducing the time taken to boot. Do Ubuntu has some thing like this?

Thanks in advance!!!

In system>preferences you can change your personal startup items (similar to start menu> startup in windows) you can also install bum (sudo apt-get install bum) which will appear in system>Administration. bum is a graphical runlevel editor allowing configuration of init services.
