I need a replacement for my sam2 player which naturally only works under windows

Asked by Steven

As i moderate on an internet radio, I need a player,
Under Windows i used the player Sam2, this does not work under linux Ubuntu, is there someone out there that could give me the name of a shoutcast player that works under linux ubuntu and if yes where i can get it from,
Please bear in mind that i dont have a clue about programing, i am only a user.
Thanks in advance
Steven

If you just want to listen to shoutcast radiostreams, you can use xmms (this info is from the shoutcast website).

This is what the shoutcast website has to say about broadcasting in linux:
"Broadcasters need to use Winamp and the SHOUTcast DSP Plugin for Winamp. There is no current solution for broadcasting from Unix or Macintosh."

Maybe you can get it to run in wine?

I don't have any experience with that but from the package descriptions it seams idjc is what you want:

Internet DJ Console is an Internet radio application for making a live radio
show or podcast. Features include two main media players with a crossfader,
a jingle player, microphone signal processing (compressor and noise gate),
IRC track announcements with X-Chat, an automatic stream shut-off timer, MP3
or Ogg streaming and recording at various bit rates, aux input for connecting
external JACK aware applications, and audio level meters.
 .

Another solution could be to set up icecast-server and use darkice to stream live content and a media player to stream recorded content (I don't know which players can feed icecast).
