Is there a application to do create and run VB scripts

Asked by prasanna kumar.t.s.m

I am a Indian citizen,India being a developing country it needs economical growth and also needs to save a lot of money,so i like to make use of kubuntu and other related distributions in schools and offices. For that i need to know wether kubuntu has any application that could be used to create and run the VISUAL BASIC scripts which is essential for doing many office related jobs. That may help really in switching from MICROSOFT WINDOWS to KUBUNTU (or UBUNTU) as it is most widely used.By using kubuntu in governmental organizations a lot of sum can be saved which is being invested in buying MICROSOFT WINDOWS and its office applications like MSOffice.
The idea is to switch completely from microsoft products to kubuntu which saves a lot of money and thus helps in increasing the economy of my country(India).

Hi, if the plan is to switch to Kubuntu why code VB script then?

You may use VMs to install Windows in Kubuntu but it's still Windows code.

Here is an article link for you: mono are currently developing VB functionality. http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS9725385854.html

Key quote: "...This new and improved compiler, which supports Visual Basic 8.0 code, is bundled in Mono 1.2.3. In addition to Visual Basic support, this version includes many bug fixes and an almost complete ASP.NET 2.0 API (application programming interface) implementation. WebParts, however, still isn't completely supported...."

Although, If you can afford to re-code for linux, gambas is worth a look (http://gambas.sourceforge.net/), which is based on Basic, but not a clone of.

HTH,

Johnathon
