Strech Icon

Asked by peter

Hello

I have a question. But it's not very important. It would be nice, if you have an answer.

I have upgradet from 7.10 to 8.04. I have the Synaptic icon on my desktop and after the upgrade this icon is very small. Strecht Icon doesn't help. Also a new placement from System didn't help.

Do you have an idea what I have to do to enlarge it?

Thanks a lot.
Peter

Had a similar problem, but in my case, I found the icons on the desktop to be too big. First, be sure that the configuration editor is enabled (Applications/add-remove, check the configuration editor box), then start the configuration editor under Applications/system tools/configuration editor. Go to the key Apps/nautilus/icon_view, and
reset default_zoom_level to "standard" if it says "small", or "large" if it says "standard". This will affect ALL your desktop icons, but it wasn't clear whether they were all too small, or just that of synaptic. If it is only this one, then perhaps synaptic has a specific entry under Apps, dunno.

Hi s_raiguel

Thanks for the hint.

The configuration editor is enabled. But I don't have this editor in the Applications>System Tiools menu.

What can I do? Thanks for your help.

To get the Configuration Editor to show up in the menu.

Right-click on you application menu bar and select ¨Edit Menus¨. Then click on System Tools in the left pane. Next enable the tickbox on Configuration Editor.

Thanks for the hint.

The key Apps / nautilus / icon_view is set to standard. And it's only the Synaptic icon. All other icons are ok.

And under Apps I don't have the entry dunno.

Any other idea? Thanks a lot.

Oops, sorry for the obscure slang; "dunno" ="I don't know". I meant look and see if synaptic has an entry under Apps that might have a key for icon size. It's a long shot, but it's the only thing that comes to mind.

The only other thing I can think of to try is to find the actual link in your home directory and try to change the icon. Go to your home directory, check the View/hidden files box (probably not hidden, but just in case). Open your text editor, drag and drop the synaptic link onto the text editor, and you should be able to see the configuration for the link as a text file. Near the bottom is "Icon=<icon name>". You can type in the name of a different icon, either one from usr/local/share/icons/ or from /usr/share/app-install/icons.

If you didn't find the Synaptic link in the Desktop directory, then either the size is simply the size of the original bitmap, or the stretch is under the control of some configuration file somewhere, but, you're right, an edit/search through the configuration editor keys doesn't turn up anything for "synaptic", so its size can't be separately controlled by any configuration key there.

One final thing to try, is to see if there's an icon (.png) file in the synaptic directory itself. If you find it, try loading it into Gimp, rescaling it to a larger size, then saving it.

Hi s_raiguel

Thanks. You helped me. I used your last proposol and I found the icon in the directory /usr/share/icons/tangerine.

I scaled it by GIMP and now it looks wonderful *lll.

Thanks a lot and have a great time.
