I want my Hardy boot splach screen when Intrepid boots

Asked by Kev

hi all. This might be a very silly question but important non the less.
I have upgraded my hardy system to intrepid and all went fairly well I played a bit and was happy with the way things worked. Then I decided to install intrepid over the top of my upgrade( the old windows user in me) using the alternate cd as there is an issue with the normal iso install with my machine... that went well... BUT
The nice crisp boot splash image of Ubuntu and the loading bar were chunkey and big on my screen. Like the one that the live cd has. So my question is
Is there a way to make the intrepid boot splash screen look nice and crisp? if so how?
and if not then can I copy the hardy one I have now on my system ( as i reinstalled hardy and the upgraded again) and later after I reinstall intrepid replace its one? and where does it go..
thanking you in advance for your help.

sudo aptitude install startupmanager

I imagine you'll find your way through it pretty well.

Thanks for that. I do have it installed but and it only deals with the grub menu resolution which is at the moment 640x480 and 8 bit colour. I think it has something to do with usplash-theme-ubuntu. The hardy version is nice and crisp almost higher resolution smaller and looks great. But if I install Intrepid on its own the splash screen and load bar looks like a bad scan and bigger. Like the boot up from the live cd.
Perhaps I could copy the theme I have at the moment and replace the intrepid one later but where are the theme files kept?

this did not do what I wanted so the problem of chunky usplash screen still remains althought I do like the timed load bar...
I think I need to somehow get the usplash and load bar picture to my monitor resolution on 1280X1024 when the it is displayed.

changed the startup manager res and it worked... I feel like a dill now... I know I tried this a long time ago bit it did not work then... I think it was when nvidia driver issues were about... so Michael Lustfield thanks... sometimes it is worth going over ground already traveled.

just for anyone that has the funny colours when they shut down..
I changed my colour bit rate from 8 to 24 in startupmanager and now have nice crisp correct colour on shutdown...
So for me Smooth usplash works great... thanks...
