Get past that to where? The Server Edition has no GUI by default, so don't expect any fancy graphic config tool.

You can install a desktop enviroment if you will, but what's the point of that in a server?

For Gnome:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

For KDE:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

For XFCE:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop

That will install all the things needed for a complete desktop enviroment.

This question is a total duplicate of https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/51942 ; perhaps one of them can be marked as "Invalid" and the answers grouped?

 It is bringing up a screen that has W: Failed to Fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/dists/intrepid-updates/.... Could not resolve us.archive.ubuntu.com, whenever I type sudo apt-get update.

Do you have networking configured? Are you behind a proxy?

If you want a graphical enviroment, you are better off downloading the regular (non-server) version of Ubuntu, Kubuntu or Xubuntu; the DVD version also includes some server packages.

Can you help with this problem?
