ubuntu error 11 dual boot

Asked by Nigel

I have a dual boot laptop. I have upgraded from 8.04 to 8.1 Ubuntu and now It does not give me an option to boot into Vista.
It does say 'other operating system' but on selecting that it gives me 'error 11' and does nothing.
Please help me?

I am a real novice so please make help easy....

Quoted from the GNU/GRUB manual

11 : Unrecognized device string
This error is returned if a device string was expected, and the string encountered didn't fit the syntax/rules listed in the Filesystem.

Please open a terminal from Applications-> Accessories-> Terminal and type

sudo fdisk -lu
cat /boot/grub/menu.lst

Please tell... the output of these two commands.

Thank you
