laptop switches off without giving any warning

Asked by Arindam

I am running Ubuntu 8.04 on my laptop (Acer Extensa 4630). I noticed once the battery dries up the laptop shuts down without giving any warning to me. What I would expect ubuntu to do is prompt me saying the power of the battery is low and it needs to be recharged. Currently I donot see any such warning messages except the battery icon on the pannel show a decreasing percentage of power.

Any suggestion in achieving this???

thanks in advance!!

if you right click on the battery icon on the panel and goto preferences, you should be able to set various options such as alarming you when the percentage drops below a certain level.

Hi Gord,
Thank you for the answer. I have seen the options available here. Most of these options are how the OS should behave when the computer is running. There is no special option saying how it should behave when the battery power is too low. Any other option that I can try??

Thanks!

you may have a different panel applet running, right click on your panel on an empty space and goto add to panel. then add the battery charge monitor applet.

Can you help with this problem?
