Is there any Scandisk tool as in Windows for improper shutdown

I wana know wat Ubuntu do on the next boot if my computer improperly gets shut down in the previous boot. Is there any tool as in Windows to fix incomplete entries. Thanks 2 everybody in advance

Open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:

sudo touch /forcefsck

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Then at next reboot of your pc the hard disk will be checked.

Thanx 4 ur time in answering my question. I hope this will help but will ubuntu do automatically in future improper shutdowns or i have 2 invoke this again....

Your password is needed only if you use, as we always do a lower user , not root.
By the way if you have already put your user password for example using another command like sudo it don't ask you any password, i don't konw the amount of time (minutes) your password is remembered from the system...

The ext3 filesystem do a check all the time the system start... and force a fully check on every 30 reboot the system or base of time from the last check...

So u mean the process is done by Ubuntu automatically to fix incomplete entries...
