Does Installing Ubuntu Wipe Old Data?

Asked by todji

I have an ancient windows laptop that's going to be recycled. I reformatted the hardrive from fat32 to ext3 and installed Ubuntu on it. Does this completely clean the data or is there still a chance that info could still be recovered?

If you are interested in totally destroying all data on a drive so that it is impossible to recovery. I suggest you use some Hard Disk Wiping Tools. The Ultimate Boot CD comes with a lot of nice tools and utilities. I think they have a half dozen disk wiping tools.

Hope this helps
