WebCam problem on VAIO VGN-FE31M

Asked by Elvin Mammadov

Hello,

I'm new to Ubuntu and Linux. I installed Ubuntu 8.10. Most everything is working! However, on my Sony VAIO notebook model VGN-FE31M, I do not now how to use the Motion Eye built-in camera. Is there certain Ubuntu software to use the camera? Do I need to install a driver or something. I basically want to use it as a web cam or just to take pictures. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Elvin

Greeting all.

I am a newbie to Ubuntu and have just installed 8.10. I have a webcam and sound problem with my Sony Vaio FE48 G.

I have been able to download and install the files required for the webcam but cannot get the webcam to work. Is there a command or simple way to see what hardware there is on the computer (have used lsusb to get the cam driver so this is correct) but now I would like to see if the installation of the drivers is correct.

Please keep any advice simple as I have not been exposed to Linux systems before and am basically iliterate when it comes to anything except openoffice.

Also advice on finding drivers for my sound card would be appreciated. In Windows it was Sigmatel. Is there an equivalent for Ubuntu?

Much appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks
