Apt package manager with automatic proxy ?

Asked by Michał Kuchta

I use my laptop directly connected to internet or connected by proxy.

My Network proxy is permanently (regardless where I am) configured by system settings/Network proxy Method: Automatic.

When I am connected directly to internet I can install packages by: apt, Synaptic, ubuntu, software.
But for network with proxy I must configure proxy for these package manager manualy (despite proxy is set in network settings).

It is a bit irritating because I frequently change networks.

I observed that chrome web browser works always good despite I am connected to proxy or not.

Is it a good idea to implement such solution in package managers ?

What is the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a; cat /etc/apt/apt.conf

Apt needs extra configuration to use a proxy. I suggest you simply upgrade when you are off the proxy (or on) and don't update on the other connection.

Can you help with this problem?
