Wireless Not Working on Dell Inspiron B130
I have a Dell Inspiron B130. I installed Ubuntu 8.10. Everything except my wireless networking is working. I installed ndiswrapper from add/remove applications and installed the window driver .ini file from Dell for my notebook. My wireless device is described as Wireless 1370 WLAN. In Network Connections I added my netwok "NETGEAR" but it still won't connect. The wirless light is on and the device appears to be enabled. I'm new to Linux and so far I like it. This problem seems like it can be fixed but I just don't have the experience to figure it out. I've been reading the blogs for 3 days now. I don't want to go back to Windows so could someone please help me out.

Hi,
Please try Lenwood's procedure here, first using Intrepid Ibex (= Ubuntu 8.10).
If that does not work, follow the same procedure, but using Ubuntu Hardy Heron. In both cases, I strongly recommend to perform a clean install of Ubuntu (and avoiding ndiswrapper in both Ubuntu Hardy Heron and in Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex)
http://
After doing a clean install of Ubuntu, you need to use the LAN connection to update all the newest updates. After that, your wireless card should work, without using ndiswrapper.
If that still does not work, please follow this procedure:
Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications-
Step 2: Run the following commands (type each then hit <enter>)
nm-tool
iwconfig
ping -c 4 google.com
ifconfig
netstat -r
sudo lshw -C network
lspci
Step 3: Post results (cut/paste terminal output from each command) here
Regards,
Mark

Hi Anthony,
Can you please create a separate question/thread for your new issue? Once you have created the new question, I will look into it.
In the new question/thread, please only send us the output of the following commands:
sudo aptitude install hwinfo
hwinfo --netcard
sudo iwlist scanning
sudo lshw -C network
lspci -nn
lsusb
uname -a
dmesg | grep ound
dmesg | grep witch
iwconfig
Also specify the exact model and make of laptop that you are using.
Regards and thanks,
Mark
