Putting Ubuntu on Powerbook G4 titanium

Asked by cmolica

I have a powerbook g4 titanium that I was able to get for $60 on ebay, but the laptop does not of an OS installed. When I was looking at the prices for getting either OS X for even the the 10.4.1 for this computer, they were way to high for my budget. So I burned a cd of Ubuntu from the site and tried to load it on the powerbook. When I was booting from CD the powerbook would not recognize the CD. Am I able to put Ubuntu on the powerbook without getting OS X? If I can, how would I be able to do that, since there really is not any tutorials for installing Ubuntu on a Mac without an OS.

That is probably because the Powerbook you have uses a PowerPC processor, the LiveCD you put in is designed for Intel/AMD Processors.

Luckily there is a port of Ubuntu for PowerPC (it used to be official). To get the port, follow the instructions here:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPC

Hope this Helps
