Asked by Arindam

Hi,
I have Ubuntu 8.4 installed on my laptop. I changed the desktop background to one of the jpeg file available in my windows partition. But every time after restart the wallpaper is reset to the default ubuntu wallpaper. Any configuration change that I need to do to make it permamnent?

Thanks in advance!!!

Place a copy of the jpeg file somewhere into your Home directory. While Ubuntu can read what is in your Windows partition, doing so is not part of the boot process.

This is probably occurring because your windows drive is not automatically mounted when you boot.

You should edit your /etc/fstab file so that your windows partition automatically mounts during startup. Here a link that should help.

Hope this helps

Copying the wallpaper to my linux partition has solved the problem. Will try out the auto mounting feature also. Thanks!!
