Thanks for the question.

What happens if hit the enter key? Do you get a prompt like '(initramfs)'? If so, enter exit and the enter key and see if it starts booting.

Did you try to run recovery mode in the boot menu in order to get some output of error, or does it stop before getting to the grub menu. If so, there might be a problem with the MBR.

It Gets to the Grub menu then the count down starts and I can choose any of the options listed and it goes to the blinking cursor and black screen . The recoevery mode will not work it goes dark as well. It's a brand new PC maybe be the Dell setup just will not allow me to install the OS. I really need this to work , because my current setup is crashing when the sceen saver loads.

Thanks for all you assistance

I'll just keep playing around with it and see what happens.

Have you tried holding down [CTRL] and hitting [F2], do you see a text based login?, (wondering if this is an X problem or a complete failure to boot.

nothing happens Do you think this is a complete failure to boot? I have reinstalled it once again and nothing. Is this a issue that any body has had prior to now or am I the first person to hit this wall/ I have read Wiki's forums other users post and nothing comes close the issue I'm having with this install. If you have any other ideas I'm open to suggestions. Pressing Ctrl+F2 does nothing..

Did you try setting fail-safe defaults in BIOS?
Can you please attach /boot/grub/menu.lst and /etc/fstab file?

Thanks guys you have been a huge help in getting this issue resolved, it's nice to know that there are people that support the open source community as well. I corrected the issue my self last week. It seems the Dell Optiplex has some PCI bus issues and the BIOS configuration will not support Ubuntu right now. It would be nice if somebody has one of these pc's and has some time on their hands to find a Hack for this it would be cool. We currently have about four of these new setting in house and are forced to run Windows. I'm currently running Fiesty on the Dell D 5150 and it works perfect also runs on the Dell E520, 3000, 4700 and 170L.

As stated above thank you for your assitance in this matter.

Peace
