What Sound Card do you have?

Try this, it worked for me on my Dell Inspiron:
In Skype Options, goto Sound Devices and setup the following:
Sound In: HDA Intel (hw:Intel,0)
Sound Out: pulse
Ringing: pulse

After that, just Apply and restart Skype.

Hi
Andre suggested that I download latest Skype for linux. I removed the edition I had 2.0.0.72-0 medibuntu. I tried to install the latest 7.04+ but in doing so i386 is the wrong architecture because of my Amd64 laptop. Looking at relevant forum there seems to be a problem with having Skype on linux amd 64 But some people suggested it could be done .It is a bit above me unless you could bring it down to my level of understanding.....a bit of a beginner!?

thank you for your help
John

Hello Anoop,
I did what you said but the configuration that you suggested for "sound in" wasnt there .I put "pulse" in the other two boxes and when I pressed test call it rang for moments and then showed a problem with sound capture.
thanks
John

Hello Anoop
I put logitech headset in first scroll down box and it works perfectly though I cant see my wife making a video call in the nearby room.
I understand this may be a teething problem with Intrepid ibex!?
thank you
John

Hi John,
I'm glad to know that your audio works perfectly. I haven't quite used Skype video so far and as you said, perhaps there are some teething problems there. If I understand correctly, this would have nothing to do with Intrepid. Rather, it is something that Skype needs to improve with regard to video calling on Linux in general and Ubuntu in particular.
