could not install web cam on hardy heron machine

I bought a webcam for my grandaughter.(microsoft vx-3000).I recently upgraded her desktop to hardy heron.Though i followed their instructions I could not install the software.I have returned the product.Are some cams not compatible with linux?I tried setup exe--and autoruns butnothing happened.I'd appreciate any help.

Hi,

Not every hardware vendor makes drivers for linux or gives the specification, so it is possible that this webcam simply was not compatible.

Hi, apparently that camera uses the same driver mine does (gspca). (on my desktop)

Step 1: go to Synaptic Package Manager under system-administration.

Step 2: find "gspca" package and mark for installation

Step 3: Click the checkmark at the top that says "apply" or something and it will install the gspca driver

Step 4: Go to add/remove programs and get "cheese" and try it out,
