More than 5 bookmarks in the main menu

Asked by flrtx

I'd like to have more than 5 bookmarks shown in the "Places" menu. When I add 6 or more bookmarks, a sub menu "Bookmarks" appears. How can I have all my bookmarks shown directly in the "Places" menu?
Nobody answered my question so far, so I suggest there is no possibility to change the number of folders displayed. It would be good, if that could be fixed.

I don't have a definite answer to your problem, but check out the advice in this Brainstorm entry.

http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/14381/

I haven't tried it myself so I can't guarantee it works, but you might want to try it.

I'm also converting this to a question as it really isn't a bug.

Cheers,

Phil

Sorry for posting it as a bug, but I filed it as a question first and nobody reacted so I thought, more people would read it if it was a bug and I was right.

Thanks for the link but this doesn't solve my problem because I can't find /gnome-panel/panel-menu-items.c . Where is that file?

flrtx,

The link provided is not a bug, just an idea suggestion. It has the following:

sudo aptitude install apt-build
sudo apt-build source gnome-panel
cd /var/cache/apt-build/build/gnome-panel*
sudo gedit gnome-panel/panel-menu-items.c

then change macros, save file and execute:
sudo apt-build install -f gnome-panel

Did you try this?

this is extremely retarded there should be a simple option to change the number of items before it creates the bookmarks submenu i shouldn't have to edit the source. why isn't there just a key in gconf?

Can you help with this problem?
