window decorator not working under compiz and 8.10

I used to use compiz-fusion and emerald together under Hardy. Now that I've upgraded to Intrepid, when I start compiz all the window borders disappear and the window decorators refuse to start (both emerald and metacity). Trying emerald --replace simply hangs and metacity --replace shuts down compiz. I've also used compizconfig settings manager (package ccsm IIRC) to change the window decorator. Neither emerald nor metacity work.

I'm sure that this doesn't really address the issue, but I've had issues with "flickering" decorations while using the Human and Dark Room themes. Switching to any other theme in System >> Preferences >> Appearance seems to stop the flickering, though. Also using Ubuntu Intrepid with nVidia GeForce 7600 GT, driver 177.

Same here but only intermittently. Usually Emerald just locks up a lot. Can't change themes without using force quit to exit application.
