Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs .

You just need to run the dpkg command as root.

sudo dpkg --configure -a

But to completely update your system I would recommend all of these commands

sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get clean all
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get autoremove

Hope this helps

These commands can be typed or copied into the terminal. You can open a terminal from the menu Applications-> Accessories-> Terminal

You will be asked for you password. When you type it you will not see the cursor move.

thanks. but there are still problems
this flashed next:

Unable to get exclusive lock

This usually means that another package management application (like apt-get or aptitude) isalready running. Please close that application first.

help pls. thanks

Make sure that any other package management applications are closed (Synaptic Package Manager, Add/Remove Programs). Only one can manager can work at a time since it locks the directory.
