Hi,

In case nobody else can help you, you might want to have a look at the FAQ:

Hi,

This is apparently a long-known bug in Ubuntu:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/63352

I am not sure it will help, but can you try the suggestions from user Plasma_NZ on the following link?

http://ph.ubuntuforums.com/showthread.php?t=795192

After that, please try installing OSS4 as described below:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OpenSound

I think you will have a better chance of success using OSS4 than using alsa (as sound system) with your x-fi extreme gamer card.

Regards,

Mark

Hi,

One more thing:

The OSS4 sound system seems to have "early beta" level support for your card:

One of the following modules in OSS4 should hopefully support your card:

oss_sbxfi pci1102,5 Creative SB X-Fi *EARLY BETA*
oss_sbxfi pci1102,9 Creative SB X-Fi (PCI-e) *EARLY BETA*
oss_sbxfi pci1102,b Creative SB X-Fi (PCI-e) *EARLY BETA*

The X-fi module is limited to stereo output at the time of this writing...

Regards,

Mark
