Asked by tripracer

I am totally new to ubuntu and really have no idea what I'm doing. I was wondering how do I install a new media player?

you can install new software using the add/remove programs application, you can find this in applications -> add/remove programs.
you might also want to take a look at: http://doc.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/switching/applications-installing.html

A good place to start would be;

system->administration->synaptic package manger

Here you can find all the packages of software available from the Ubuntu repositories

For example if you search for VLC you can install the Video Lan Client media player

Select the box next to a package you want to install and then click apply.

Ian

There is the VLC Media Player in the repository or on the Live DVD of Ubuntu. So you can install it and it'll play all media files.
