use skype repository for skype and medibuntu for other things

Asked by Max Randor

When I first wanted to install skype I added skype's repository to my sources list and installed skype. Now I have added the medibuntu repository to my sources list, it wants to upgrade my current skype to exactly the same version but with medibuntu added onto the end of the name, skype is closed source so there can be no improvements in the medibuntu version and so I want to stick to using the skype repository for skype because when they release an update it will be in the skype repository first.
I do want skype to continue to get updates (so i don't want to lock it) I just want to use one repository for it rather than another. How do I do this.
Thank you.

Just remove the medibuntu source from your sources.list(remember to save it) and go to Terminal and type sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

Perhaps I did not explain properly I want to keep using the medibuntu repository, just not for skype.

When a new version arrives in the skype repo you will get it from there. Of course if the medibuntu people add it to theirs as well you may get it from there, but all things being equal you will get it from the skype repo first.

I would just leave it as-is.

Oh I expected the message I had typed to get sent. Oh well.
This will just mean that I will get skype upgraded twice for each real upgrade, using twice as much bandwidth and time, this does not matter to much as the package is small and so it will not use much but I though there might be a clever way around the problem, this being linux.
