not able to recognize reliance data card

Asked by rahul

My laptop is not at all recognizing reliance data card, connected through USB.
Its not being shown in lsusb or dmesg | grep tty.
It is supposed to be a pcmcia card.

output for sudo dmesg | grep tty:
[ 12.828387] console [tty0] enabled
[ 50.189556] audit(1225651103.589:2): type=1503 operation="inode_permission" requested_mask="a::" denied_mask="a::" name="/dev/tty" pid=5205 profile="/usr/sbin/cupsd" namespace="default"

output for sudo lsusb:

rahul,

Could you clarify whether the data card is a pcmcia connection or usb connection?

Thanks

My card plugs in to the usb port. The output from the lsusb shows its not being
recognized as a USB device. I saw on the web that it would be shown as a char
device /dev/ttyS* but the log from dmesg shows that even that is not happening.
I tried lspcmcia but it does not show anything.

I just found this... Unplug the data card, and run this command:
sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x19d2 product=0xfffd

Plug the card back in and it should register in dmesg, using the command you specified earlier:
dmesg | grep tty

If that doesn't work, could you provide the full dmesg output, and we'll be able to see if the device fails somewhere along the way?

it does not seem to be working. Device is still unrecognized.

1.plug out all the USB devices and check the dmesg

2.plug in the expected USD device and check the dmesg again

3. Compare the difference in the dmesg.
