Dell Inspiron 1525 - Low playback volume

Asked by gcclinux

Hello I have issues that I can not listen to the volume higher than low, should I turn the volume down a couple of click it even stops.

ricardo@dell-desktop:~$ aplay -l

ricardo@dell-desktop:~$ lspci | grep Audio

AlsaMixer v1.0.15
Card: HDA Intel
Chip: SigmaTel STAC9228
Item: Master [dB gain=0.00, 0.00]
Item: PCM [dB gain=0.00, 0.00]

I have already re-installed alsa also:

cd /usr/src
sudo apt-get install module-assistant
sudo module-assistant update
sudo module-assistant prepare
sudo module-assistant auto-install alsa
sudo shutdown -r now

The only change is that everything seems to run through the PCM volume now, Master has no effect, i can mute it, run it up or down it won't make any difference.

Playback software like Amarok, Rhythembox, SoundRecorder all with Volume max out.

Any assistance will be great, many thanks.

Also running the following kernel:

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24-19-generic

Because the upgrade kernel ## kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24-21-generic can't even find the sound devices, i already tried to rebuild alsa with the new kernel and still did not work.

Many Thanks in advance.

i have inspiron 1525 and i don't have any troubles with sound. Try go System>Preferences>Sound and set all setting Auto Detect except of sound Capture, set it to HDA Intel ... ( ALSA )

p.s. you have the same pc as me.. please take a look on issue "https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/49604"
