Is it an IBM thinkpad?
Because I have such laptop... On all the laptops of that series, the installation is not exactly... fluid... :)

You might want to give a glance to this page: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkWiki
There's a lot of information about installing, configuring linux and so on, on IBM laptop machines... Hope this helps :)

Anyway, if you give me further information I could try to guide you in the installation process...

Hello !

Feisy (the new version of Ubuntu) will be released on April 19th, so if you can still wait, I propose that you do so until then ... Feisty has an improved hardware support, and it went really well on a laptop on which install was impossible with 6.10 (even after lots of hacks).

If you can't stand waiting, you can try a text-mode install with the alternate CD (available here: http://releases.ubuntu.com/6.10/ubuntu-6.10-alternate-i386.iso or here for AMD64: http://releases.ubuntu.com/6.10/ubuntu-6.10-alternate-amd64.iso)

Hope this helps !

Regards,
Benoît
