Missing TV tuner application

Asked by geek_inn

i know about Myth tv and some other app's related to tv tuner but the real q is not what i
know but the part relating to ubuntu's support for default tv tuner card, interestingly there
isnt single app in ubuntu support for tv tuner ,and it doesnt endorses or compatable tv app
for this purpose,ok for now i know about MYTH tv and freevo but it isnt simple to install with all dependency hell and no internet on my pc and EVEN ubuntu doesnt detect my card
says it as unknown device.
I REGRET using ubuntu for tv purpose, cause nothing works as good as in windows.forgive
me for calling for windows help but will ubuntu support natively or default app for tv.think of
working in this direction,Linux mainly hasnt been from past little support to Multimedia apps
and including poooooor
below par support for games.

I've mythtv working on my undertv machine and it's from far better than any privative software i've seen before.

There's some kind of mythtv for dummies in the feisty release. Any way runing it with edgy it's a little more tricke but also espectacular in results.

GNU Linux always decects your cards but may be you should regret your manufacturer to release some kind of free firmware. You can get all firmwares you need for your card at linuxtv web.

Also about multimedia you have no tools with the power of mplayer, mencoder or ffmpeg in privative software and all derivative software ... may be youdon't like it's use but you can think about privative codecs hell.

One more thing you'll found in gnu linux ubuntu comunity is respect for the others. The people search help and helps each other to find solutions positively never with uppercase.

You'll have always open our door if you need help but don't burn bridges this is not our way of life.

Hi,
I am using my laptop (with GutsyG and KDE - Kubuntu) as I used it with MS - and I know no programming -
When I connet my Laptop with a SVGA cable to the TV to VIEW PHOTOS using gthumb or Digikam, (and using it correctly plugged into the TV) nothing happens - in MS mode it works, but not in Kubuntu

Am I doing something wrong or do I need to download something so that it will work as is?

does Kubuntu not give the photo image from gthumb on to the TV
All advise will be appreciated - I will prefer not to make use of MS or MS products if it is not VERY necessary

thanx
Rusty

Not sure about Kubuntu, but with Ubuntu running on my HP pavilion I got the TV output to work by downloading the xserver-xorg-video-intel package. You most likely need to determine the video card that you have by looking at your computer's specs, and install that with synaptic (if you haven't used synaptic yet, I assure you that you don't need to be a programmer).

After having done that, I found that it works if I startup Ubuntu with the TV connected (it won't work on the fly). Once I've got both displayed I'll change the screen resolution to match the TV's aspect ratio.

Not ideal, but it works.

Good luck,
Hoons
