my kepad and touchpad not detected in ubuntu8.10

I could not use my keyboard and touchpad in ubuntu8.10 beta version.
My laptop model is Compaq 702TU.
Touchpad:Alps pointing Device

Try to install the xserver-xorg-input-all package.

Wow you have solved your original question after 3 years, now the Ubuntu 8.10 is not more supported so please install Ubuntu 11.04 using live cd...

Actually it solved the problem long back ago... Similar problem was seen in ubuntu 11.04 also but solved it by following your answer and doing a similar trick.. Sorry for the delay in reply
