Getting Ubuntu to work

Asked by ScouseMouse

I have just downloaded the Ubuntu desktop, but am finding it difficult to get it to run. I have not saved it to CD and am trying to run it directly off my desktop (WinXP). I click on the Start CD icon, and it opens a window, giving me various choices for software to use. When I click on these, however, I get an error message saying they do not exist. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

You should to burn the iso to a cd and boot your computer from that cd. You can then run as a live cd to test, without any risk to your current install of xp, and then and only then if you like it, give it a go.

You can't "run" an ISO image, it is a bit-for-bit copy of the contents of a CD. You should burn it to CD and boot from it to test out Ubuntu.
