Broadcom Wireless Driver Not Working After Upgrade.

Asked by jon

Hi,

I just upgraded to the newest version of Ubuntu V 7.04, and now my wireless will not work on my Compaq Presario V5201US Notebook PC. It has a Broadcom 4318 Wireless Network card. It was working fine after several failed attempts with NDISWRAPPER before the upgrade. The little blue light that shows connectivity is on, and the Network Connection eth01 shows 100% connectivity to the wireless network, and it also shows other wireless networks around. So it looks like it should be working, but it isn't???

I'm pretty new with this so if anyone is patient enough to help me, that would be awesome!

Is there any way you can give me a step by step how to on this? The first time it took several tries at different How To's on this, one erasing the connection all together. Any help for a very novice user is appreciated.

Ok, I got it working. I used this guide http://doc.gwos.org/index.php/Broadcomm_with_Ndiswrapper and it works perfectly now.

Note: Before you can install the driver make sure that in
System/Administration/Software Sources

make sure that the "Proprietary drivers for devices (restricted)" is enabled

----------------

I had a similar problem. and simply reinstalling the driver did not work for me.
what I had to do was to completely uninstall the driver. and then install the driver.
and that worked.

run synaptic
System/Administration/Synaptic Package Manager
enter ~your~ password

search for "Broadcom"
look for anything that says something like "B43 fwcutter"
there are at least two versions of this.

For any B43 that is installed right click and select
"Mark for Complete Removal"

Apply

you are done with synaptic
-----------------

Now
System/Administration/Hardware Drivers
Select the "Broadcom B43......"
and click the Enable checkbox.

You will then be prompted to install the driver.

After that it should work.
at least it did for me on a toshiba laptop with a pcmcia dynex/broadcom card
