unable to remove program

Program imagemagick is listed as installed twice in ubuntu software center. I have tried removing both instances via the software center to no avail. I don't use the program, it showed twice in the update list.
Running Ubuntu 16.04LTS.

solved the problem, but it took a bit. Started at CL
sudo apt-get autoremove imagemagick
This took several minutes.

Next I reeturned to the software center, it was still there, twice.

With little left to lose, I clicked the remove button. Call for a password this time, and one listing was gone. Hit the remove button on the other listing, which was removed.

I don't know why, but it worked.
