X server

Asked by kmi

Instaled ubuntu 5.10 on a computer running Vista. Install went fine but then it it said it needed restart to install more modules or something like that. After restart it continued to install modules, but in the middle of the process the screen went all full of text. But install continued. then it restarted after some time. But now when i start ubuntu i get an error saying: Failed to start the X server (your graphical interface) it is likly it is not set up correctly. Would you like yo view the server output to diagnose the problem?

Can type the server output text, just gonna take some time.

Should i just try to install the latest verson if ubuntu insted? installing this cus i got it on cd from a friend.

Hi,

you could try a "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" (typed after you have logged-in and without the " ") and answer the following Questions as far as you know (in almost every case, you can press Enter). After that, type "startx" and you should get to KDM where you can Log-In to KDE.

Can you help with this problem?
