ubuntu doesn't login the terminal shows up

Asked by Vikram Dhillon

My Ubuntu was working perfectly fine and yesterday I installed a theme called Ubuntu studio using some commands on the terminal as described on a webpage. IT said to remove 4 packages and add 7 packages. After that it worked fine, until the next day I booted ubuntu the orange progress bar starts up and then the terminal comes and asks me to login. the only problem is that I don't get the login window and the desktop with the humame login screen. I can't even uninstall it. PLEASE HELP ME......

** I have Ubuntu 8.04.1 and XP Professional, ubuntu is installed on a seperate partaiton D: using inside window option, DELL INSPIRON 1565

Looks like you have messed up your ubuntu desktop..

Course to a terminal (Press cntrl + alt +f1 or f2 in the login screen) Or boot up in recovery mode (Usually 2nd option in grub menu)

and give the following command:

sudo apt-get remove ubuntu-desktop

and

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

and reboot your system..

sudo reboot

Hope it helps
