Playing a video

Asked by Ampers

When I try to play one of the videos at this website http://campaignforliberty.com/edu/economics.php I get an error message:

An error occured
Could not open location, you might not
have permission to open the file.

I have downloaded the correct MMSH codec.

Can anyone help please?

Hello ampers

Playing fine with me..

(its in .asf format I think)

You can play it happily using mplayer plugin and the w32codecs.

I copied all the instructions in the link you have me and tried running the program again.

I still received the following message:

An error occurred
Could not open location, you might not
have permission to open the file.

Does this mean there is something wrong with my "permissions" but how on earth would that apply to a webpage? The website is a free webpage for access to anybody.

If you have any other media players like totem gxine etc please uninstall it....

and try again

Another possibility comes to mind;

have you upgraded firefox manually using their website? If so, that might have broken the links which allow for smooth launching of the media applications. You could try downloading the video to your desktop and watching it from there.

Aha... your last paragraph got me thinking.

I had included the Firefox plug-in when you sent that link to download mplayer. But I had not rebooted.

I have now rebooted and mplayer is working within Firefox.

Thanks for your help.
