What Graphic Card To Use

Asked by Thomas Brownlie

Hi All,
I'm after a 3D graphics card for ubuntu 8.04, so that I can fully get the extra visual effects. My PC is old-ish, it's a HP Compaq D330ST, Pentium 4 2.8ghz, with 1gb memory. The current graphics card is an on-board unit. My PC is connected to my LG 42" tv running at a great resolution (1920 x 1080) - but it isn't 3D... So any suggestions on a reasonable 3d graphics card? I'm not a massive game player - I just want a decent 3d card so that I can get the extra visual effects... Suggestions? I'm from Australia if that helps.

Hi,

I would suggest you to use a Nvidia card. they are well supported under Ubuntu. If you want a budget card 8600 should do it.

Can you help with this problem?
