Is an Athlon 64 3000+ processor considered i386 PC or AMD 64 bit for installation?

I have an Athlon 64 3000+ processor and want to know if it is AMD 64 or i386 pc when I install Ubuntu desktop. I currently run MS XP pro.

You can use either one of them. The AMD64 will take advantage of your 64bit capabilities, however many commercial/proprietary programs (the one you're most likely to notice: Flash) are not available for 64bit. There is a workaround to get the 32bit Firefox plugins working on 64bit Firefox & Linux, but I've heard it's a bit messy. The 64bit probably doesn't have as good of hardware support (important if you have other hardware that uses binary drivers) or as much stuff in the repos just because of it being a newer/less-common thing than 32bit.
