external laptop drive doesnt connect

when i plug in my 80gb external laptop drive, nothing happends.. it doesn't connect.

How can i make it connect?

How can i find out whats wrong?

Right, can you please connect your hard drive and then open a terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal) and type in

sudo fdisk -l

(Type in you password when it asks, don't worry you won't see any visual feedback)

Then can you paste the output of that command here.

i was just about to do that now when.... it just worked.

so i guess it worked.
