Boot time excessive using ReiserFS

Asked by MikeMc

With bootchart installed shows ReiserFSfsck takes 33 seconds to complete. This is even when there is no journal to replay (after a normal boot).
My configuration is attached.
Is this normal? Are there any (ReiserFS) options that can shorten this time?

Please migrate away from Reiser FS to ext3 for example since Reiser FS isn't really maintained and supported by the Linux-community.

I am not very happy with this answer: if the functions are available in Ubuntu to enable me to build my system using Reiser FS and then only to discover later I should not have done it makes me feel like a complete idiot. Either Ubuntu should come with a health warning to this effect or the functions should not be easily available.

How about doing something about this situation?

ReiserFS is not the default choice in Ubuntu so you made the decision to start using ReiserFS. And about support even Novell has stopped supporting it as a default since some time now for more then one reason. All distributions still have the option so people can migrate there data over to a better supported filesystem like ext2, ext3 or ext4 when it becomes mainstream.

If you think you know better or can do better then join the community and start maintaining ReiserFS, but don't expect to much support within other communities like the Linux-kernel.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask MikeMc for more information if necessary.
