You can install the Desktop Metapackage too via sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop. After that you have normal Gnome-Environment with Server-Edition-Kernel.

net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare: cannot open usershare directory /var/lib/samba/usershares. Error Permission denied
You do not have permission to create a usershare. Ask your administrator to grant you permissions to create a share.

You can use Samba but i have only little knowledge in it. At Home i share my Files per SSH, i add the SSH-Server in Nautilus and can watch Videos over SSH
