Feisty current net install very slow/freezing

Asked by Alex Mayorga

I've modified Instlux over at http://instlux.sourceforge.net to install Feisty Fawn in a no CD laptop.

I used http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/dists/feisty/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/386/ as the PXE

After the reboot the installer kicked in just fine and I choose the US mirror but once it got to the "Select and install software" screen after I've chosen Ubuntu as the desktop everything was very slow, even tough I'm on a 1 Mbps DSL.

I went for a beer and some wings with my wife and mother in law when it was at 1% and when we came back it was only at 6%. I left it running overnight and in the morning it was still struggling at 18% looking pretty stuck at "Preparing foomatic-filters..."

So my question is if this is normal?

I've used Instlux in the past and got an usable system in 3-5 hours later. This time about 12 hours have gone and it's still installing. The activity LED in the network card is off all the time and the HD LED only kicks in rarely.

Hi,

I saw the same problem on a computer of a friend of mine.
What I finally did there and I recommend to you too is to install edgy and change te distrubution in /etc/apt/sources.list to feisty later. If you do this even before you have logged-in with your desktop-manager you will have an as clean install of feisty as you would get from the installation cd directely.

I hope this will help you :)

Kind Regards,

Maarten

Maarten,

Thanks on the suggestion, since then I've succeeded with the net install. I still believe this is a bug given the installer won't error out. Can you confirm the related Bug #103825.

Best regards,
Alex
